1-on-1 Singing Lessons With a Focus on Confidence and Health

Healthy, Fundamentally Sound Production

Good singing is rooted in effortless sound production, and we work with our pre-college voice students on how to sing with a beautiful tone without tension. If a young singer learns to manipulate a pleasing sound or gain volume without first learning good technique, they could develop vocal nodules, hoarseness, or be otherwise limited as they continue to pursue singing. Oftentimes, singers who reached a level of success at more junior levels will hit a plateau when they try to audition for school musicals, advanced choirs, or college auditions. Sometimes, the only way to break through these skill plateaus is to revisit technique - but if your technique is excellent from day one, you won’t hit skill plateaus as often.

Creating Confident Singers

Singing lessons at Rogers Music Academy will help a child, teen or adult find vocal confidence. We believe that finding your voice and using it confidently are the most important takeaways from pre-college voice lessons, and we will help your child understand how their voice works, how to project, and how to feel comfortable singing in ensembles and in front of others as a soloist. Confidence stems from technique and practice, and we’ll focus on both.

Voice Teachers Who Can Help With Different Genres

Your child or teenager may not have long term goals yet, and that’s to be expected. Even high schoolers may have a hard time knowing if they want to sing on Broadway, in a rock band, in a church choir, or sing in classical music competitions.

The instructors at Rogers Music Academy will help your child learn the fundamentals of singing, and those skills will transfer directly to any genre your child wishes to pursue. Opera and jazz singers alike need to learn proper breath support, how to keep the soft palate out of the way, how to keep the body tension-free, and how to sing on pitch.

But as our singing students learn these fundamentals, we encourage them to tell us about their specific goals and interests. Do they want to prepare a program of Schubert Lieder? Do they want to start working through the musical theater repertoire? Please let us know, and we can help develop genre-specific techniques.

Learn Music Fundamentals in Addition to Singing

We believe that students enrolled in our Gastonia singing lessons should understand the fundamentals of music - not just the art of producing sound beautifully.

Our teachers will help you learn to read notes, identify time signatures and sing with good rhythm, sight-sing, identify key signatures, interpret symbols like forte, piano, and crescendos, and so much more. We will also work on you with diction - whether you are singing in English, Italian, or French, articulating clearly will set you apart from your peers.
