Guitar Lessons in Gastonia For Kids and Teens

We teach guitar classes for students age six to adult, and your child does not need any previous musical experience to enroll. Total beginners and musicians with prior lessons alike are welcome in our studio.

Engaging Guitar Lessons Your Child Will Love

We keep students involved by focusing on music, not simply drills, etudes, and discourse. Your child will play songs in their very first lesson, and they will continue learning new pieces each week. We’ll continue to work on important musical concepts through actual tunes, and while lessons are always fun and interactive, we strive for excellence each week.

Learning Guitar Doesn’t Have to Take Years

In many traditional lesson settings, your child may complete his or her first method book in about eight months. They will learn a handful of new songs in that period of time, and they may grow frustrated with the pace.

We have created a learning progression that allows students to work through their first method book in only four months, and by the time that time period is over, they will have learned dozens of new songs that they can share with friends and family. They will also have professional backing tracks that make playing fun.

Learn to Practice

Your kids won’t be on their own when they practice at home throughout the week. In their lessons, We will teach them and their peers exactly what to practice, and how to practice, at home. Most progress is made in the practice room, and we teach our students how to continue to improve even when we’re not there.

Guitar Lessons For All Genres

Whether your child wants to strum the acoustic guitar with friends, play electric guitar in a local band, or grace the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, they can get their start at the Rogers Music Academy.

Our students learn how to read notes, analyze music with music theory, play by ear, and understand rhythm. We can also progress to playing with harmony, alternate tunings, and more.

The most important thing is that your child will receive a holistic music education that can apply to classical, jazz, rock, blues and more. Furthermore, they will find our guitar lessons to be fun and inspiring, thus fostering the desire to pursue music.

Our studio is located in Gastonia, just south of Stanley, and just a quick drive north from East Gaston High School. Families from Mt. Holly can catch Highway 27, and students from Spencer Mountain have a quick ride on Stanley Spencer Mountain Rd.

What Techniques Will Your Child Learn in Guitar Lessons?

Firstly, we teach our guitar students how to properly hold the instrument, sit with good posture, grip the neck board, and depress strings on the frets. We want to make sure no bad habits are born during this stage, as they can lead to injuries or discomfort in the future.

We’ll also work on correct strumming right at the beginning - we want your child to be able to play chords as quickly as possible. We will also cover the notes represented by the different strings on the guitar (E, A, D, G, B, E), and your child will learn how to tune his or her instrument. Students at the Rogers Music Academy start learning chords early, because there is real music to be played with even the most simplistic chords (like a minor, e minor, and others).

As our students progress into the intermediate zone of guitar playing, they will have a large chord library at their disposal, be able to read music and identify notes on the fret board, and play some scales. We can also introduce simple solos at this stage (built upon their knowledge of major, minor, and pentatonic scales), and melody with accompaniment often comes into play.
