First Tip - Ask Local Piano Technicians

Before you visit one of the stores listed below, consider searching online for a local piano tuner. Once you’ve found 3-5 tuners or technicians, give them a call to see if they know of any good pianos for sale.

Most technicians know of at least a handful of used upright or grand pianos on the market, and they may even be restoring a piano on their own that they’d be happy to let you test. It never hurts to try the local Gastonia network before you head to Charlotte.

Where to Buy a Used Steinway Piano in Charlotte

The store listed above has a very limited number of Steinway options, but the Steinway Piano Gallery in Charlotte does not. There is a large selection of pre owned grand pianos and upright pianos at the Steinway location, in addition to Boston, Essex, and other affiliated makes.

The benefit of purchasing a used Steinway grand or upright piano from a Steinway dealership is that their technicians are Steinway certified, and the pre-owned piano will be about as reliable as they come. You can finance your piano if you would like, and continue to work with the dealership on piano tuning and ongoing maintenance.

What About Music & Arts, Sam Ash, and Guitar Center?

If you want a genuine acoustic piano, these franchised retail locations will not work for you. However, if you would like to purchase a digital keyboard, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.

As far as playability is concerned, Yamaha Clavinova digital pianos are traditionally the best. You can get nicer instruments, like the Yamaha digital hybrids, but that’s a different conversation.

Something more affordable would be the Casio Privia line of electric pianos - they have weighted keys, feature a nice sound, and are relatively inexpensive. Rolands are higher end “stage pianos,” but if you plan to practice often, the value is good.

Good luck as you embark on your piano buying journey, and if you have any questions about music lessons in Gastonia, NC, please get in touch! You can also take Athens, GA piano lessons from our second location.
